Local 8K VR playback on Android

8K LOCAL VR / ON-DEVICE OPTIMIZATION

If real-time 8K60 playback is too heavy for your phone, pre-optimize to 30fps on-device. For long or very large files, clip only the A-B section you need without re-encoding, then optimize that smaller clip.

Key features

Local 8K-class VR playback

Play 8K-class VR video from local storage within the capabilities of your device hardware decoder. Supported resolution, frame rate and bitrate depend on the device codec.

60fps → 30fps pre-optimization

If real-time playback cannot keep up with an 8K60 file, convert it to 30fps on-device to reduce playback load. The optimized version is used automatically the next time.

A-B clipping without re-encoding

Set A and B points and save the section as a separate MP4 without re-encoding video or audio. Keep the original image quality and frame rate, then pre-optimize only the smaller clip.

VR formats and projections

Supports 180°/360°/2D projection and SBS/Top-Bottom stereo layouts, including VR180 and equirectangular 360 video.

Hands-free controls

Control menus with head movement and gaze. Look down to reveal the controls and dwell on a button to select it. Recenter and gyro controls are also available.

Fine playback adjustments

Adjust FOV, IPD, brightness, volume, 0.25×–3× speed, A-B repeat, double-tap skip, resume playback, persistent settings and background music.

Headset alignment adjustment

In addition to IPD adjustment, crop-based frame correction can compensate for slight phone alignment differences inside a headset.

On-device processing

Playback, pre-optimization and A-B clip creation run on-device. OctaVR does not upload your video files to its own server for these operations.
